TMF at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024:
Reused installation by design duo Färg & Blanche becomes a new meeting place
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming edition of Stockholm Furniture Fair, the design studio Färg & Blanche introduces The Yellow Thread – a new design bar created in collaboration with The Swedish Federation of wood and furniture industry (Trä- och Möbelföretagen, TMF), and Stockholm Furniture Fair. The artistic design installation was first created by Färg & Blanche for the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. Now it’s displayed as a fresh approach to attendee interaction.
The installation The Yellow Thread was commissioned by the Swedish Institute and created by Färg & Blanche for the 2023 Swedish Presidency of the European Union at the European Council in Brussels.
The original concept has now evolved into a roughly 500 square meters installation, which encompasses a bar and seating area, as well as a spacious stage area dedicated to the fair’s seminar program. The bar is framed by striking yellow arches that define and accentuate the space, offering a distinct design experience where innovation meets craftsmanship, tradition, and sustainability.
– The Yellow Thread conveys a warm welcome, says Fredrik Färg, one half of the design studio Färg & Blanche, which he has co-run with Emma Marga Blanche since 2010.
– Yellow was chosen – not only for its illuminating and optimistic nature but also because it symbolizes the colors of the Swedish and European flag. The Yellow Thread offers a warm and calm atmosphere, designed to provide serenity amidst the fair’s hustle and bustle.
In a joint endeavor with Trä- och Möbelföretagen TMF, Färg & Blanche have furnished the bar with several circular products from TMF’s member companies. This transformation stands as a testament to sustainable design and the principles of circularity. The flooring product used in the area is provided and installed by Tarkett.
– We are extremely proud to have initiated this exhibition, where the results of our member companies’ circular business models are linked together in Färg & Blanche’s installation. We hope that the space of the design bar inspires conversations and insights and not least, that it leads to business for our member companies, says David Johnsson, CEO of TMF.
Project manager Sandra Furtenbach oversees TMF’s activities at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024, and she elaborates on the concept.
– Instead of a traditional fair stand, we have decided to focus on the physical meeting place where conversations arise– a design bar where we highlight the strengths of the Swedish furniture and interior design industry. Placing the stage area next to the design bar makes the whole concept even stronger.
An additional design bar will be introduced at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024. Surface Club is developed by Malmö-based design studio Lab La Bla. The design bar stands out for its unique diamond-shaped layout and innovative use of sustainable materials.
Stockholm Furniture Fair will be held on February 6-10, 2024, at Stockholmsmässan, in parallel with Stockholm Design Week (February 5-11).
